Barnside Brewing
Barnside Brewing is a farm brewery at 6655 60 Avenue, in the farmland northeast of Ladner Village. It brews with barley and hops grown on its own farm, and pours in a tasting room built with old barn beams, with a kitchen and a four-season patio that looks across the hop yards.
Please note: LadnerBC.com is a privately owned local guide with no affiliation with Barnside Brewing. The brewery sets its own hours and events, so this page links to its site for them.
Hours, beer and events
The brewery
"Good Beer, Grown Here" is the brewery's line, and its beer list names the ingredients the farm grows. Barley grown on the farm is malted for the pilsner, the hop yards supply varieties such as Cascade and Triple Pearl, and the farm's potatoes have gone into a limited-release stout. The list is just as plain about some of what comes from elsewhere, like the Czech malts blended into that pilsner.
The brewery tells its history as a farm story. David Harris and his sons, Joseph and John, broke land on Crescent Island in the late 1800s, and more than a century later, in the brewery's words, "four local farm families have come together to make beer." The tasting room's century-old beams came from heritage barns in Ladner.
Where it is
The brewery is at 6655 60 Avenue, about 6 km by road northeast of Ladner Village. Its address reads Delta, BC, the city Ladner is part of, and the brewery describes itself as being in Ladner.
What to expect
The tasting room serves the beer with what the brewery calls farm-focused food: comfort food, led by its grilled cheese, plus handhelds, soups, salads and shareables, made with ingredients from local farms and businesses. The patio is built for all four seasons.
For later, there's beer to go in cans, bottles and crowlers, and most of the beers can go into a growler. Tours run when they're booked ahead.
Children are welcome if they're well behaved and supervised. It's a working farm, and the brewery asks that children stay with their parents the whole time, for safety. Dogs on a leash are welcome under their owner's control, though pets aren't allowed inside the tasting room.
Groups and organizations can book smaller events at the brewery; the site has a link for group bookings.
Hours and seasons
The brewery's hours change with the season, and the kitchen keeps hours of its own; both are on the contact page. The taproom page lists coming events, the beer list marks the seasonal releases, and the home page has a "What's in Season?" list.
