Ladner Village Market
The Ladner Village Market takes over 48 Avenue in Ladner Village, from Delta Street to Elliott Street, on select Sundays from June to September. Farmers, bakers and makers sell what they've grown, baked or made themselves, the avenue's own shops and restaurants stay open around them, and it goes ahead rain or shine.
Please note: LadnerBC.com is a privately owned local guide with no affiliation with the Ladner Village Market, the organizations that run it or the City of Delta. The market sets its dates and hours each season, so this page links to its own site for them.
This year’s dates and hours
What the market is and who runs it
It's a farmers' market in the strict sense. The market belongs to the BC Association of Farmers' Markets, and the association's members work to one rule: every vendor sells only what they made, baked, grew, raised or harvested from the wild themselves, and nothing bought in to resell. The market's own shorthand for it is "make it, bake it, grow it."
The City of Delta contracts the running of the market to For the Love of Local Foundation, a not-for-profit, which runs it with The Collective Markets, a market organizer that runs other markets around BC as well. Questions about the market itself go to them; the operator's market page is the place to start.
Where it sets up
The stalls run along 48 Avenue between Delta Street and Elliott Street, with the avenue's shops and restaurants behind them. If you're putting it into a GPS or a maps app, the market gives its address as 5028A 48 Avenue, Delta.
The market is held on the street, so 48 Avenue is no place to drive or park on a market day. Leave the car a few blocks off and walk in.
How the season works
The market runs on Sundays from June into September, but only on some of them. It picks a short list of Sundays for each season and posts the list, with the hours, on its dates page.
Two habits will steer you wrong. One is assuming a fixed pattern, like the second and fourth Sundays of the month. The days shift from month to month, and the market's own description of its pattern hasn't always matched its list. The other is assuming it skips long weekends. The market has said it never falls on one, and its directory listing still says it skips them, but its list hasn't held to that. Go by the list.
The hours are posted with the dates. It runs rain or shine.
Getting there and parking
By car
Ladner Village is a few minutes off Highway 99, just south of the George Massey Tunnel.
- From Vancouver or Richmond, take Highway 99 south through the tunnel and leave at the first exit after it, for River Road. Follow River Road west into the village to Elliott Street, turn left, and go a couple of blocks south to 48 Avenue.
- From the Peace Arch crossing or South Surrey, take Highway 99 north to the Ladner Trunk Road exit and head west. Ladner Trunk Road crosses Highway 17A and ends at Elliott Street; turn right, and 48 Avenue is a short block north.
If you're coming through the tunnel, it's the stretch worth checking before you set out. Our Massey Tunnel guide links DriveBC's cameras and current closures.
Parking
The market takes up 48 Avenue itself, and parking around the village gets tight on market days. Look for a space on the side streets or in one of the City's public lots. Memorial Park, a short walk south, and Ladner Lions Park, a short walk north-east, both have one. Spaces are first come, first served; follow the posted signs.
If you can walk, cycle or take the bus, you'll skip the hunt for a space.
By bus and by bike
Buses serve Ladner Village. TransLink's Trip Planner gives you the trip from wherever you're starting. On a market day, check TransLink's alerts as well, in case buses through the village are sent around the market.
There are bike racks around the village core.
What to expect
Expect farm produce, locally raised meat, baked goods, honey, preserves, plants, prepared food and food trucks, and a long run of artisans and crafters. Community groups have tables too, and there's live music and busking along the way. The City of Delta counts it among the biggest open-air markets in western Canada.
Bring some cash. Some vendors take cards, but not all of them do.
If you're after a particular stall, The Collective Markets has a vendor map on its site.
Accessibility
The market is on a paved street with sidewalks on both sides. Its entry in the BC Farmers' Market Trail directory marks it wheelchair accessible and lists designated accessible parking, without saying where. The village also has accessible spaces on its streets and in its public lots.
For washrooms, Memorial Park on 47 Avenue has public washrooms with single-occupancy stalls and an accessible stall with an automatic door. The City opens its park washrooms for the warmer months, generally until the September long weekend, so on a later September market day don't count on them. We couldn't find anything the market publishes about toilets on the market site itself.
Pets aren't allowed in the market. Guide and service dogs are.
