Delta Hospital

Delta Hospital is Fraser Health's community hospital for Delta, at 5800 Mountain View Boulevard in Ladner, about 2 km east of the village and next door to the Ladner Exchange. Its emergency department and lab each have a Fraser Health page, linked here, and the hospital's own page has the full list of services.

Run by Fraser Health.

Please note: LadnerBC.com is a privately owned local guide with no affiliation with Fraser Health, which runs Delta Hospital. Services, hours, visiting rules and parking change, so this page links to Fraser Health for all of them.

Hours, visiting, emergency and the lab

Fraser Health sets the hours, visiting and parking and has posted notices about the emergency department in its Delta news, so those are linked to its own pages. Wait times are on a regional site it helps sponsor.

The lot is beside the main entrance on the building’s east side, and the east driveway that leads to it leaves Clarence Taylor Crescent opposite the Ladner Leisure Centre’s driveway. Address: 5800 Mountain View Boulevard, Delta, BC V4K 3V6. Locations: © OpenStreetMap contributors

What the hospital is

Fraser Health calls Delta Hospital a community hospital, one that provides primary and secondary care and some specialty services. It's the one hospital on Fraser Health's list for Delta, and the hospital's foundation says it serves North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen.

Fraser Health's page for the hospital has the current list of services there, each with a page of its own.

Getting there

Fraser Health gives the address as 5800 Mountain View Blvd, Delta, B.C. V4K 3V6. Delta is the city; the hospital itself is in Ladner, about 2 km east of the village.

The grounds take up most of the block ringed by Harvest Drive on the west, Mountain View Boulevard on the south and Clarence Taylor Crescent, which runs up the east side and curves back across the north. The Ladner Exchange sits just past the north edge, Irene Thomas Hospice stands in the block's northeast corner, and Highway 17A runs north to south about 350 m east of the middle of the grounds, on the far side of the Ladner Leisure Centre.

Mountain View Boulevard is the street in the address, but OpenStreetMap puts the main entrance on the building's east side, facing the hospital's lot off Clarence Taylor Crescent. That lot is where the directions button on this page takes you. OpenStreetMap also shows driveways into the grounds from Harvest Drive and Mountain View Boulevard, and a service road inside the grounds that joins them all and passes the entrance lot.

From Ladner Village, take Ladner Trunk Road east, turn right (south) onto Harvest Drive, then turn left onto Clarence Taylor Crescent. The crescent curves past the Ladner Exchange to the hospital's east driveway, which sits opposite the leisure centre's driveway and leads into the lot by the main entrance.

Coming south on Highway 99 through the Massey Tunnel, take Exit 28, the Highway 17A exit, keep right at the fork and follow Highway 17A south for about 2 km. Turn right (west) onto Ladner Trunk Road, left onto Harvest Drive, then left again onto Clarence Taylor Crescent, which brings you round to the east driveway, about 3.5 km from the exit. The Massey Tunnel guide has the traffic links to check before you drive through.

Coming north on Highway 99 from the border or South Surrey, take the Ladner Trunk Road exit and follow Ladner Trunk Road west for about 8 km. Turn left onto Harvest Drive, then left onto Clarence Taylor Crescent to the east driveway, about 9 km from the exit.

Fraser Health says the Ladner Exchange bus loop is next door, and TransLink's Trip Planner has the routes and times. By bike, Harvest Drive runs along the hospital's west side, with shared lanes both ways, part of Delta's local cycling network.

Parking

OpenStreetMap maps four lots inside the grounds, two of them marked as the hospital's. The directions button goes to the one beside the main entrance. The other is on the west side, between Mountain View Manor and Harvest Drive, and about a third of it now falls inside OpenStreetMap's outline of the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre site, so don't count on it. Two smaller lots sit on the south side, off the internal road from Mountain View Boulevard, and on the east side, just north of the entrance lot.

Fraser Health posts the hospital's parking notes, lot changes included, on its page for the hospital, and the same page sets out its parking terms, so read them before you go.

Inside the hospital

Fraser Health says the lab is on the main floor, through the main entrance. A short way south of that entrance is the two-storey Peter C. and Elizabeth Toigo Diagnostic Services Building, an addition that opened in 2020 for the hospital's diagnostic imaging.

Fraser Health's interactive floor map has two levels, with nearly everything on level 1 and patient rooms on level 2. The map page was last changed in 2019, the year before the Diagnostic Services Building opened, so it may not match the building today.

There's a café, the Courtyard Café, and a gift shop, which the map calls the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. The café's opening days and hours are on Fraser Health's page for the hospital.

Visiting, emergency and the lab

Visiting hours, what Fraser Health asks of visitors and the main phone number are all on its page for the hospital. The same page explains how to email a message to a patient, which a volunteer then delivers by hand.

The emergency department has a page of its own, with the department's phone extension, its hours and a parking note. Fraser Health has announced temporary service interruptions at the department in its News in Delta list. For wait times, the regional Emergency Department Wait Times site, which Fraser Health helps sponsor, lists Delta Hospital with its current status: type in a Ladner address and it comes up first.

For the lab, Fraser Health's lab page has the hours, the walk-in hours and the days it's closed, with its phone lines and a note on fees. Its Laboratory Service page explains how to book, change or cancel an appointment, online or by phone.

The hospital campus

Mountain View Manor, a Fraser Health long-term care home, is attached to the west side of the hospital and shares its address. Fraser Health's page for the Manor has the details.

In 2023 the Province announced a 200-bed long-term care home for the hospital site, to be built and run by Fraser Health on vacant land there and to replace Mountain View Manor. Fraser Health calls it the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre, and its project page follows the progress. The site is on the north side of the grounds, between the hospital and the Ladner Exchange. The hospital's foundation has raised money toward the project.

Irene Thomas Hospice, a ten-suite Fraser Health hospice residence, is just outside the grounds at 4635 Clarence Taylor Crescent, about 140 m northeast of the hospital.

The Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, a not-for-profit at the hospital's address, says it has been raising money for health care in Delta since 1988. Fraser Health describes it as raising money for equipment, capital projects and building improvements, and for ongoing education of medical staff. The foundation calls the hospital, Mountain View Manor and Irene Thomas Hospice together the Delta Hospital Campus of Care. Its yearly fundraising gala is the Moonlight Gala, and its own site is dhchfoundation.ca.

What's nearby

Dugald Morrison Park is directly south, across Mountain View Boulevard, with a baseball diamond, an artificial-turf soccer field and a field house. Three more green spaces are within about 300 m: Rotary Park to the east-southeast, between the leisure centre and City Hall, with picnic tables and trails; the Delta Manor Park playing field to the north-northwest; and, to the north-northeast, the fenced off-leash area in Paterson Park.

Ladner Village, where the village market sets up, is about 2 km west.

History

The Delta Optimist's files date the hospital's groundbreaking to 1975. By the paper's account, the site's extended-care unit, now Mountain View Manor, officially opened in 1977, three years before the acute-care hospital, which opened with its emergency department in 1980.

Fraser Health's 2002 changes cost the hospital its acute surgical program and its critical care unit, and the City's records describe the hospital as downgraded that year to sub-acute care. Delta residents campaigned to get the services back. They sent the Province a petition with about 30,000 signatures, council formed a Mayor's Task Force on Delta Hospital, the 2002 municipal ballot carried a question about the hospital, and in 2003 the council of the day joined local business and community groups in signing a "Declaration of Dependence".

In 2008 Delta Hospital was an acute-care hospital again, with surgery kept to day surgery, after five years that brought it a larger emergency department, renovated surgical daycare and 12 more acute-care beds. Voters backed a question on that year's ballot about giving municipal money toward a CT scanner for the hospital. The municipality gave it from its surplus, and the foundation and the hospital auxiliary gave the rest.

The foundation says a Master Concept Plan completed in 2011 laid out the next 20 years for the hospital and its grounds, starting with more diagnostic services on site. The Peter C. and Elizabeth Toigo Diagnostic Services Building opened in 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the expansion also made room for a larger lab. It was a joint project of the Province, Fraser Health and the foundation, whose share included gifts from the Toigo family and the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society.

In 2025 Fraser Health said it was building a new space in the hospital for its endoscopy program, and the foundation committed to funding all of it.
