Ladner Exchange

Ladner Exchange is the bus loop on Harvest Drive at Clarence Taylor Crescent, next door to Delta Hospital and about 2 km by road from Ladner Village. TransLink runs it, with seven bus bays along a long island in the middle of the loop, and the Ladner Exchange Park and Ride, a lot TransLink lists with 200 spaces, sits right beside it to the east.

Run by TransLink.

Please note: LadnerBC.com is a privately owned local guide with no affiliation with TransLink, which runs the exchange. Routes, schedules and the Park and Ride's rates and rules change, so this page links to TransLink for all of them.

Parking, trips and schedules

Schedules, the bay map and the lot’s rates and rules all live on TransLink’s pages, so they’re linked here.

The lot is just east of the exchange on the south side of Clarence Taylor Crescent, and its driveway comes in from the crescent. Address: 4645 Harvest Drive, Delta, BC. Locations: © OpenStreetMap contributors

The bays and the loop

TransLink runs the exchange, and its bay map is worth having open the first time you change buses here: TransLink notes that a transfer at an exchange can mean a short walk from one bay to another. The map shows seven numbered bays along both sides of a long central island (Bays 1 to 3 on the north side, facing Clarence Taylor Crescent, and Bays 4 to 7 on the south side) and which bay each route uses. TransLink keeps it on its transit maps page with the other exchange maps.

On the map, both lanes of the loop meet Harvest Drive at its west end and wrap around the island at its east end. OpenStreetMap shows them as one-way, east along the north side and back west along the south, and marks them for buses only.

Getting there

The exchange is on the southeast corner of Harvest Drive and Clarence Taylor Crescent, about 300 m south of Ladner Trunk Road. Highway 17A crosses Ladner Trunk Road about 500 m to the northeast. TransLink's map gives the address as 4645 Harvest Drive, Delta. The City of Delta lists that number for Fire Hall No. 1 across the road, so if you navigate by the address, look for the exchange on the east side of Harvest Drive.

The Park and Ride's driveway is on Clarence Taylor Crescent, so every route ends with the same left off Harvest Drive. From Ladner Village, drive east on Ladner Trunk Road for about 1.4 km, turn right onto Harvest Drive, then left onto the crescent. The exchange is on your right, and the driveway is just past it.

Coming south through the Massey Tunnel from Richmond, take Exit 28, the Highway 17A exit, keep right at the fork and follow Highway 17A south for about 2 km to Ladner Trunk Road. Turn right, and after about 400 m turn left onto Harvest Drive. That's about 3 km from the exit to the lot. Drivers coming through the tunnel can check its traffic links first.

From the border or South Surrey, stay on Highway 99 only as far as the Ladner Trunk Road exit. Ladner Trunk Road then runs west for about 8 km, across Highway 17A, to Harvest Drive: turn left there. That's about 8.5 km from the exit to the lot.

From the south on Highway 17A, turn left (west) onto Ladner Trunk Road, then left onto Harvest Drive.

On foot or by bike, the exchange is about 2 km from the village along Ladner Trunk Road and Harvest Drive. OpenStreetMap shows no bike lanes on Ladner Trunk Road between the village and Harvest Drive, and maps Harvest Drive beside the exchange as a local cycling route with shared lanes both ways.

By bus, TransLink's Trip Planner gives the trip to or from the exchange.

The Park and Ride

The Park and Ride lot is right beside the exchange to the east, on the same south side of Clarence Taylor Crescent. TransLink's Park and Ride page lists it under Delta as Ladner Exchange, at Clarence Taylor Crescent and Harvest Drive, with 200 parking spaces, and files it among its non-TransLink Park and Ride facilities.

Drivers park here, since OpenStreetMap marks the loop's lanes for buses only. The way in is the driveway it maps at the lot's west end: heading east from Harvest Drive, pass the exchange on your right and turn right about 120 m along. Directly across the crescent from that driveway, a lane runs north to a small gravel lot by the Paterson Park off-leash area, so it's the right-hand turn you want.

The bays are a short walk from the car: the middle of the lot is about 110 m from the middle of the exchange. OpenStreetMap maps a footpath from the lot's west edge, over a marked crosswalk at the loop's east end, onto the bus island.

TransLink's page has the lot's hours, its rate and the overnight rule, and it says the signs at each Park and Ride show the rates, hours and liability notices too. Check the page or the signs before you leave the car.

Schedules, fares and alerts

TransLink's Trip Planner plans trips to and from the exchange, and its schedules page looks up bus times by stop or route. Before you leave, check the bay map for your bay and TransLink's alerts for detours and temporary stop changes. Fares and the Compass Card are on its fares page.

Accessibility and bikes

The bay map marks all seven bays with the wheelchair symbol, and TransLink says every stop in its system has a sign in braille and raised lettering giving the stop ID and, where there is one, the bay number. Its accessible transit page has the size and weight limits for wheelchairs and scooters on buses and explains how to board, and it warns that some stops aren't yet set up for getting on and off with a mobility aid.

TransLink says every one of its buses has a rack on the front for up to two bikes, and its bikes on transit page has the rules for the racks. For somewhere to lock a bike, check TransLink's bike parking page: Ladner Exchange isn't on the list of bike locker locations, and for racks the page says only that most bus exchanges have them.

What's nearby

Delta Hospital's grounds meet the exchange on the south side, and Fraser Health's page for the hospital tells visitors the bus loop is next door.

Directly across Clarence Taylor Crescent is Paterson Park, and its fenced off-leash area faces the Park and Ride lot. The City's page for the park has its hours.

Across Harvest Drive are Delta Fire Hall No. 1, about 130 m away, and the Delta School District's office at 4585 Harvest Drive, about 250 m to the southwest.

The crescent runs east past the Park and Ride and bends south to the Ladner Leisure Centre, about 300 m away, and Delta City Hall, about 450 m.

History

A 2001 Delta report dates the exchange to 1978, when it was set up to bring transit to South Delta's public services. The exchange stood on municipal land, which Delta leased to the transit authority from that year, and that first lease ran until 1998, when a new one was signed. Delta also owned the two lots just east of the exchange and, under an agreement that began in 1987, leased them to the transit authority to be used as a park and ride. By 2001 Delta's leases were with the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority, known as TransLink. That 2001 report calls the exchange the Ladner Bus Loop, and a 2006 one calls it the Ladner Bus Exchange.

In 2012 the Delta Optimist reported that Delta still owned the land under the exchange and its lot, and leased the site to TransLink. In 2026 TransLink replaced the exchange's concrete bus bays, repaved the loop and replaced sections of the Park and Ride lot.
